چکیده

murmur was present. The breath sounds were poor and bowel sounds were audible in the left chest. The abdomen was scaphoid and the liver was not palpable. There was hypoplasia of the left arm and hand with a contracture of the left axilla. Chest roentgenogram revealed the presence of the liver and bowel loops in the left chest. The baby was intubated and placed on a respirator in 100 percent 02. The pH was 6.6, Po2 was 20, and the Pco2 was 85 mm Hg. The baby was treated with trishydroxyaminomethane (THAM). At operation, a left-sided foramen of Bochdalek hernia and hypoplasia of the left lung were found. The hernia was reduced and the diaphragmic defect repaired. The patient remained severely hypoxic and acidotic despite maximal yentilatory pressures, 100 percent oxygen, and therapy with THAM. In an attempt to decrease the pulmonary vascular resistance, the patient was brought to the cardiac catheterization laboratory for infusion of tolazoline into the pulmonary artery. A French No.

Transient neonatal tricuspid regurgitation: a Doppler echocardiographic study of three cases.

Three patients with normal hearts and no pulmonary abnormality had neonatal tricuspid regurgitation causing cardiorespiratory distress and cyanosis. The signs of tricuspid regurgitation resolved over a few weeks. In the acute phase echocardiography showed gross dilatation of the right atrium and ventricle. The interatrial septum bulged into the left atrium during the whole cardiac cycle. Dopple...

Perinatal Physiology and Principles of Neonatal Resuscitation

doi:10.1016/j.cpem.2 Successful transition at birth is dependent on establishment of the lungs as the organ of gas exchange. The objective of this review is to provide a general overview of the events during transition at birth, pathophysiology of asphyxia, and response to resuscitation. The basic steps of neonatal resuscitation are establishment of airway, ventilation, and circulatory support....

Conversion of complex neonatal Ebstein's anomaly into functional tricuspid or pulmonary atresia.

BACKGROUND Ebstein's anomaly, due to failure of delamination of one or more leaflets of the tricuspid valve (TV), is associated with varying degrees of tricuspid regurgitation (TR) and dysplasia of the right ventricle (RV). Although refinement of tricuspid valvuloplasty and plication techniques have opened the way to a satisfactory outlook for the majority of older children and adults, Ebstein'...

Management of congenital choanal atresia (CCA) after multiple failures: A Case Report.

Nasal obstruction in neonates is a potentially fatal condition because neonates are obligatory nasal breathers. Bilateral choanal atresia is therefore a neonatal emergency. Several approaches for corrections of choanal atresia are available including the helium laser: YAG. A 5-year-old Chinese girl born with bilateral choanal atresia, had birth asphyxia that required intubation. She underwent m...

Neonatal cholestasis as the presenting feature in cystic fibrosis.

Between 1960 and 1994 cystic fibrosis was found in nine out of 1474 infants investigated for neonatal cholestasis. Four had delay in passing meconium. In all patients cholestatic jaundice was present during the first 48 hours and in three patients cholestasis was complete, mimicking biliary atresia. Serum cholesterol concentrations were normal in all but two children. Sweat chloride was repeate...
